Photodynamic Therapy Approved for Age-Related Macular Degeneration UW Eye Center |

![]() ![]() Nominations are now being accepted for the second Roger
H. Johnson Macular Degeneration Prize. Doctor Johnson endowed this prize
that will be awarded every two years through the Department of Ophthalmology
at the University of Washington. The goal of this prize is to stimulate
clinical and basic science research that will elucidate the pathogenesis
of macular degeneration, and to develop better treatments for this disorder
that affects a large percentage of patients over the age of 60.
A cash prize of $40,000 will be made to the individual selected for this honor by the selection committee. The recipient will deliver the Roger H. Johnson Macular Degeneration Lecture in early June, 2004, at the University of Washington, Seattle. Nominations for the prize are open to all clinicians and scientists throughout the world. The successful candidate will be the clinician or scientist who is deemed by the selection committee to have made the most significant contribution to this end, as evidenced by at least one scientific paper published in the peer-reviewed literature in journal issues with publication dates from 1 July 2001 to 1 August 2003.
